I had such a fantastic day with Fuchsia Lin—a wardrobe designer, filmmaker, and creator who's worked with the likes of Oregon Ballet Theatre and Wieden + Kennedy's famous hands-on advertising academy, 'The Kennedys'. She's a London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London grad, and has been featured on OPB.
In our recent studio visit, she shared how she’s turned sustainability into her competitive edge and built a business around purpose and independent design.

I asked: How do you build a brand that’s both unique and impactful?
Fuchsia: With the help and input of mentors and consultants. Through peer-collaboration, she's learned how to define her mission –“leading innovative art that promotes the healing and wellbeing of our planet”– set bold goals, and self-fund beautifully inspiring large and small projects.

When clients commission her, she stands firm on using only sustainable materials and transforming challenges into colorful, conscious collections (check out the images of her work I took during our studio visit). Some of those she works with include Textile Hive and FABSCRAP.
It's designers like Fuchsia that dazzle me and keep me going. I hope that her approach toward sustainability does for you, too.

The artist's way is one that I continuously encourage corporate leaders to reflect on, because after all, we all need a break from crunching data from time to time.
Here's what she says are her super skills (competitive edge):
Be unique, not mass-produced– and stick to your values.
Collaborate, don’t compete.
Embrace imperfection
Find joy in the process.

Fuchsia has a couple of things going on she'd like you to know about:
1. A fundraiser for her next film, where performers act out a mythical drama that symbolizes the battle over climate change, featuring award-winning dancers wearing over forty handmade costumes and props made from sustainable materials. https://seedandspark.com/fund/future-cosmos-flow#story
2. She's also looking for a reputable gallery or institution to exhibit her couture collection.

Be curious, reach out to her, say hi, ask her some questions about her work, and let her know you'd like to help connect her to someone you know who may want to exhibit her designs.
